RX NUTRITION · PATH 04

Food-symptom nutrition care.
Restrict less. Learn more.

Food intolerance nutrition care starts by separating intolerance, allergy and other possible causes of symptoms. A clinical dietitian builds a food-and-symptom history, protects nutritional adequacy and uses structured elimination and reintroduction only when it answers a defined question.

THE QUESTION TO ANSWER

Which food, portion or pattern is actually involved?

Recurring symptoms need a timeline before they need a long exclusion list. The pathway separates possible intolerance from allergy and other causes, then tests one clear question while keeping meals nutritionally complete.

WHO THIS PATH CAN HELP

Recognise the need.
Choose the right next step.

01

Mapping symptoms, timing, portions and repeat patterns

02

Separating likely intolerance questions from possible allergy symptoms

03

Planning a time-limited elimination and structured reintroduction

04

Maintaining protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals while foods are restricted

05

Reducing avoidable food fear and expanding the diet when possible

This is a nutrition-care pathway.

It does not diagnose a condition, replace prescribed treatment or guarantee an outcome. Your first consultation confirms whether this path fits your question.

A DIRECT ANSWER

How does a dietitian assess suspected food intolerance?

A dietitian begins with a detailed food-and-symptom history: what happened, how much was eaten, when symptoms began, whether the pattern repeats, which foods are already excluded and whether medicines or another condition could explain it. The first safety decision is whether symptoms suggest food allergy or another medical problem that needs a doctor. When food intolerance remains a reasonable question, the dietitian may plan a short, focused elimination with nutritionally complete alternatives, followed by structured reintroduction. The goal is to find a repeatable relationship and return tolerated foods, not create a permanent long banned-food list. Lyxaa offers this clinical nutrition pathway in Kozhikode and online across India where appropriate, and can review an existing home-test report without treating it as a diagnosis.

Discuss this with the dietitian
01

Separate allergy first

Rapid reactions such as swelling, wheeze or faintness require medical allergy assessment.

02

Test one question

A focused, time-limited trial is easier to interpret and safer than removing many foods at once.

03

Reintroduce deliberately

The long-term plan keeps only restrictions supported by a repeatable response and clinical advice.

THE RX NUTRITION METHOD

Four decisions.
One practical plan.

The report never becomes the service. The service is the qualified interpretation, food plan and review around it.

01

Start with the symptom timeline.

Record what happens, how soon it begins, the portion, other foods, medicines, stress and whether the pattern repeats. The history helps decide whether food is the most likely explanation.

02

Screen for allergy and medical red flags.

Itching, wheeze, swelling, faintness or a rapid reaction needs medical allergy assessment. Persistent weight loss, bleeding, fever or severe symptoms also need prompt medical review.

03

Test one question at a time.

When appropriate, the dietitian plans a short, specific elimination with suitable alternatives. Foods are reintroduced methodically so the result is interpretable and the diet does not remain smaller than necessary.

04

Keep only what the evidence supports.

The final plan reflects repeatable symptoms, nutritional needs and medical advice. Broad commercial panels are not treated as a permanent banned-food list.

EVIDENCE, KEPT IN PROPORTION

Food intolerance and food allergy are not the same.

Food allergy can cause rapid, serious reactions and needs qualified medical assessment. Some home tests marketed for food intolerance have limited evidence and can lead to harmful over-restriction. Lyxaa does not use an IgG list as the final word on what you can eat.

USE WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE

Bring the complete result.

Bring your food diary, previous reports and any home-test result. You do not need to repeat or accept the test’s excluded-food list. The first task is to understand the symptom pattern and whether a supervised food trial, medical test or referral is appropriate.

THE HUMAN REVIEW

A person builds the plan.
Your context stays visible.

Food access, household meals, work hours, symptoms, diagnoses and medicines can pull in different directions. A qualified person weighs those relationships and explains the reason for each priority.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Know what comes
before you book.

01What is the difference between intolerance and allergy?+

An intolerance usually causes digestive or other symptoms without the immediate immune reaction of an allergy. Allergy may cause itching, wheeze, swelling or collapse and can be serious.

02Should I buy an IgG food intolerance test?+

Major clinical guidance does not recommend using broad home tests as a standalone diagnosis. Start with qualified assessment before cutting out multiple foods.

03How does elimination and reintroduction work?+

A suspected food is removed for a defined period while suitable alternatives maintain nutrition, then reintroduced methodically to see whether symptoms return.

04Can I start if I already avoid many foods?+

Yes. This is a strong reason for dietitian review because the plan must protect nutritional adequacy while the symptom pattern is clarified.

05When should I see a doctor urgently?+

Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, faintness or a severe rapid reaction. Other persistent or concerning symptoms also need medical assessment.
